Karak (कारक) shows the relation of a noun or a pronoun with the verb in a sentence. In SSC Hindi, the question is: "Which karak is used in the underlined word?" These karak in Hindi notes for SSC give the 8 karak with their vibhakti chinh (the marker words), examples and tricks to separate the karak that confuse most students (karan, sampradan and apadan).
8 Karak and Their Vibhakti Chinh
| कारक | विभक्ति चिह्न | Example |

| संबोधन | हे, अरे, ओ | हे ईश्वर! मेरी रक्षा करो |
Trick to remember the order: कर्ता, कर्म, करण, संप्रदान, अपादान, संबंध, अधिकरण, संबोधन (कर्ता-कर्म-करण-संप्रदान-अपादान-संबंध-अधिकरण-संबोधन).
Meaning of Each Karak
- कर्ता (doer): the one who does the action. मोहन ने खाना खाया. (Who ate? मोहन)
- कर्म (object): the one on whom the action falls. मोहन ने खाना खाया. (What was eaten? खाना)
- करण (instrument): the means by which the action is done. वह कलम से लिखता है.
- संप्रदान (receiver): the one for whom something is given or done. माँ बच्चे को दूध देती है.
- अपादान (separation): the place or thing from which something separates. वह घर से निकला.
- संबंध (relation): the relation between two nouns. राम का भाई.
- अधिकरण (place or time): the place or the time of the action. मेज पर किताब रखी है.
- संबोधन (address): calling someone. हे राम! यह क्या हुआ?
Karan, Sampradan and Apadan: The Confusing Three
| Point | करण | संप्रदान | अपादान |
|---|---|---|---|
| Marker | से, के द्वारा | को, के लिए | से |
| Meaning of से | By means of (साधन) | Not used | Separation from (अलग होना) |
| Example | चाकू से फल काटा | गरीब को दान दिया | पेड़ से फल गिरा |
