How to Attempt These Questions in the Exam
Read the whole sentence before looking at the options. Decide whether the missing word is a noun, a verb or an adjective, because this removes at least two options at once. If two options sound alike, check the meaning of each in the context. Do not rely on sound alone, because homophones sound the same and differ only in meaning and spelling.
Common Mistakes in Confused Words
- Using its and it's interchangeably.
- Mixing up affect and effect.
- Choosing the spelling that looks familiar and not the meaning.
- Learning the words without a sentence.
- Forgetting that they're, their and there have different meanings.
- Not revising the list.
How to Practice These 21 Questions
- Learn three groups of words every day.
- Write one sentence for each word.
- Use memory tricks.
- Revise the table every week.
