Solved Examples
Example 1. Find √784.
28 × 28 = 784, so the root is 28.
Example 2. Find √1296.
36² = 1296, so the root is 36.
Example 3. Find the cube root of 2197.
13³ = 2197, so the cube root is 13.
Example 4. Find the square of 75.
7 × 8 = 56 and then 25, so 5625.
Tip to Find a Square Root
- The last digit of a square can only be 0, 1, 4, 5, 6 or 9.
- If the number ends in 4, the root ends in 2 or 8. If it ends in 6, the root ends in 4 or 6. If it ends in 1, the root ends in 1 or 9. If it ends in 9, the root ends in 3 or 7.
- Find the two squares between which the number lies, for example 784 lies between 27² and 29².
